About Me
I'm a freelance journalist, editor, speaker and digital consultant based in Bristol. I work with publications based both in the UK and abroad, specialising in the arts and cultural industries.
I have written reviews, features, columns, interviews and profiles for publications including the Guardian, Classical Music Magazine, Music Teacher, Circus and Nearfield. Having held staff positions as Editor of Drama & Theatre and Digital Editor and Staff Writer at BBC Music Magazine, I have stayed on with both titles as a critic and contributor. I am also a regular reviewer for Trail Runner Magazine and other outdoors publications. I have also provided production support to the likes of BBC Countryfile Magazine and BBC History Magazine, among others.
Alongside my journalism, I work with a range of commercial clients on copywriting, content production, strategy and communications management.
I contribute regular concert programme notes and season guides for festivals, venues and organisations including Duke Arts and Classeek, and have written sleeve notes for albums such as cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason's Song, released on Decca Classics. I have also supplied press releases to record labels, ensembles and film production companies both in the UK and beyond, and contributed editorial content to brands including MOTH Drinks.
In my consulting work, I have worked with brands on creating and implementing long-term sustainable digital-first editorial strategy and training team members on SEO, affiliates and social media.
As part of this work, I have provided media training to artists and musicians and advised on digital communications and interview technique. I previously held the role of the Digital Manager for The King's Singers, looking after their global social media and e-newsletter communications, and have managed the PR for artists and ensembles including Quartet Malamatina and provided ad hoc promotional support for the releases of albums and independent films.
As an experienced data-led digital editor and content strategist, I have worked with organisations to complete audits of their existing process and create holistic content and marketing strategies. With Bristol Ideas, I introduced the brand's first affiliate programme and worked on optimising its extensive library of content for search, creating marketing plans for its three major festivals. I have also worked with Homes & Antiques on developing their content for SEO.
As a speaker, broadcaster and event moderator, I have hosted podcast interviews, pre-concert talks and film and book events for a range of venues. These have included a live interview with pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason at St George's Bristol and a premiere screening of All My Life's Buried Here at Curzon Cinema & Arts in Clevedon. Plus, I created, launched and hosted BBC Music Magazine's successful Music to my Ears podcast and been interviewed as an expert guest on shows such as The Media Podcast.
